IGFs and IGF-binding proteins in the regulation of human ovarian and endometrial function.

چکیده
The key function of reproduction is to propagate inheritable characteristics to new generations. The human female reproductive system consists of the hypothalamic– pituitary–ovarian axis and end organs such as the uterus and fallopian tubes. The endocrine axis involves both peptide hormones (gonadotropin-releasing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH)) and steroid hormones (estradiol and progesterone). In addition, numerous growth factors, including the insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and IGFbinding proteins (IGFBPs), play an important role at the tissue and cellular level through autocrine and/or paracrine mechanisms. There is substantial evidence that IGFs and IGFBPs are involved in follicular growth/development and steroidogenesis in the ovary, in proliferation and differentiation of the uterine endometrium, and in the implantation of the embryo.

Background and Objective: IGFs (Insulin-like growth factors) and some binding proteins can cause occurrence and recurrence of breast cancer. Since the role of combined exercise training on these factors is not clear, therefore, the aim of this study was to look at the changes of IGF axis and some binding proteins in postmenopausal women with breast cancer after 15 weeks of combined exercise tra...
متن کاملInsulin-Like Growth Factors and Their Binding Proteins in Tumors and Ascites of Ovarian Cancer Patients: Association With Response To Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy
Purpose: Tumor cell growth and sensitivity to chemotherapy depend on many factors, among which insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) may play important roles. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the levels of insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs) in primary tumors and ascites as predictors of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in ovarian cancer (OC) patien...

متن کاملThe ovarian insulin and insulin-like growth factor system with an emphasis on domestic animals.
Insulin and insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) have direct effects on cultured ovarian cells. These effects include stimulation of granulosa cell mitogenesis, granulosa and luteal cell progesterone production, and thecal cell androgen production and appear similar among species. However, species differences exist with regard to insulin and IGF-I effects on granulosa cell estradiol production. I...
متن کاملInsulin-like growth factor binding protein-4 proteolytic degradation in ovine preovulatory follicles: studies of underlying mechanisms.
The regulation of insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP)-4 proteolytic degradation by insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) has been largely studied in vitro, but not in vivo. The aim of this study was to investigate the involvement of IGFs, IGFBP-2, IGFBP-3, and IGFBP-3 proteolytic fragments in the regulation of IGFBP-4 proteolytic activity in ovine ovarian follicles. Follicular fluid...
